Just one of those days...or weeks or months...don't give up, keep going!

Newsflash, major public service announcement…no matter how much of a positive, optimistic person you are, and no matter how much you surround yourself with positive people and pictures, you WILL have down days.  In fact, you may even have weeks or months where you feel weak, tired, uninspired, unmotivated and downright sad.  During this time, common thoughts and questions that come to mind are things like, “why am I doing this? what’s the point? Is it all worth it?  Why do I work so much and so hard? I feel like quitting”

I know all too well what this looks and feels like.  Winter months are particularly hard for me, with the frigid temps and lack of sunshine, but this January and February were two months where I felt particularly weak, tired and almost burned out, having just wrapped up at an extremely stressful job, just broken up with a boyfriend, just started a new job, and just evicted a tenant.  I was tired – physically, mentally and emotionally.  Oh, and did I mention that I was supposed to be studying during all this?

But I’m here to tell you, that no matter how tired you get, don’t give up, keep pushing.  If it means you have to take some time away from everything and everyone, to rest, recoup and rejuvenate, do that and take as much time as you can, but don’t you dare give up!  Just like me, you were created with a purpose and God put you here on earth for a reason, which makes it imperative that you keep going so that you can fulfil your life’s purpose.  Sometimes, along life’s journey, you may get tired and that’s okay – in fact that’s to be expected.  But don’t quit – keep your “why” and your destination at the forefront of your thoughts.

Call me crazy, but I’ve actually now come to realize that days, weeks and months like this - where our energy level is low and we feel extremely tired - are just as important, if not more important than the great days where we’re dominating and on top of the world.  See, I think that it’s during these down moments that we take the time to reflect on life, where we were, how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go.  It’s during these times when we actually sit still, that we can listen to the voice of God, who reminds us of our purpose and what’s most important in life.  It’s during these down moments that we are humbled by the reminder that we are not immortal or invincible, but that in fact we are very much reliant on God for life itself.

It’s during these times that we are reminded of how important our health is, and that our health truly is our wealth – and of how foolish it is to spend our health trying to accumulate wealth, only to then have to spend our wealth in a desperate attempt to regain our health.  Thank God for the useful reminders that come from these quiet and often “down” moments. Regardless of who we are, we all experience one of those days, weeks or months, but don’t give up – refuel and keep on going.  This is a part of the journey of life, so let’s accept and appreciate it.

I'm not Bossy - I'm a Leader!

There’s an infographic that I love, with a little girl pointing her finger in a little boy’s face telling him, “I’m not bossy, I have leadership skills.”   Although it’s refreshing to see things like this, I find it disappointing that in 2018, our society still socializes little girls to be “good little girls,” and little boys to just be. I grew up in a very traditional household, where my dad was very much the alpha male, and there was no question that he was the leader and very much in charge of the household.   I even remember as a little girl I would ask him to watch a TV show called “Who’s the Boss,” and he’d remind me, with a grin on his face, that there was no need to watch that show because he was/is the boss.   We’d both chuckle about it, but it always stayed with me, along with the memories of the some of the conversations with my dad, where he would urge me to take charge of my own life.   He’d say things like, “you need to be able to take care of yo...
